SUNLESS DAZE: Press

. Name, instrument, biggest pet peeve?

A.Doug Nien (D9) Guitar and vocals. I would say my biggest pet peeve is the lack of Rock/metal music on mtv or even the lack of music period!

Q. When did Sunless Daze form?

A.Well the earliest version started 2002 with myself and Mike Citro. After going through a couple of different guys on vocals and bass, I invited my brother Mike 9(on vocals) and my Cuz Mike Skladel (bass) who has since moved on, to join and complete the puzzle. So we really got it going in 2003. Mike Skladel has since been replaced by Jeremy Scott on bass.

Q. Zeppelin, some good 'ol southern rock, and a hint of Dream Theater is heard in your music. Who are some of your specific musical influences?

A. Wow, that's yet another description I have not heard!! Thats cool. Well no one has picked up on the southern rock thing,I beleive it's in there. Mike C and I love Skynard. Zeppelin is prob in there,I think everyone is influenced by them directly or indirectly. And Dream Theater, our Long Island brothers, are awesome talents, so thats a complement to us!!We have such a wide variety of influences, here are some: Dokken,Ozzy,Iron Maiden,Tesla, KISS/Ace Frehley,John Norum,Y&T, and newer stuff, like what Godsmack is doing. But A lot of old school melodic Hard rock,Oh I left out Weird Al

Q. Non-musical?

A. For me and Mike it's our parents! We learned our work ethic and how to commit to the things that are important. Those are just a couple of the ways they influenced us.

Q. Was Deep Root's your first full legnth?

A. Yes it is our first full lenght release/available at bestbuy.com, cdbaby.com, iTUNES etc (shameless plug).

Q. Awesome. What are your top two favorite tracks on the album?

A. Wow thats hard! "You can't save me now" and "You Hope". I don't know, it's like picking your favorite child. I wrote them all.

Q. Your music has gotten a lot of local attention around Long Island from radio stations and newspapers. Has this helped increase your local following?

A. Of course it helps. Its hard to say how much because people don't come out as much
as they did years ago, in other states the air play gets us more hits on myspace it
seems. But its also about momentum and you got to maintain a certain level of hype in
a certain period of time. We try to do that with our radio promo's and newspaper ad's
in between the free publicity. You do have to invest in yourself and constantly put
the name in the public eye.It is hard for us indie bands on a limited budget.I will
say we have picked up air play from indie and internet radio after being seen or
heard in interviews and it has helped us that way. We also sponsor a race car every
year. This year we were on the Slick's Racing #22, you can see video and pics on the
myspace site or www.sunlessdaze.com

Q. Favorite Venue to play at?

A. Any venue that has a great sound system and cold beer. We love to do benefits
like Relay for life!

Q. As a band, what do you hope to accomplish within the next year?

A. A lot.But one thing is to travel and hit some areas that have responded to us
greatly. We start 2008 in conneticuit Jan 4th .Greater sales so we travel more lol we
take that money and invest in right back into the band.Gas is expensive. And start work on the next cd as well as a live EP.

Q. And a question I personally have been wondering for a while...why do superheroes wear tights?

A. Haha, I think they do that for the ladies!
